9th Grade Lottery

The Lottery

All eligible 9th grade applications submitted by the lottery deadline are automatically entered into our Lottery – no further step is needed. The University Prep Charter High School lottery will be conducted in early mid-April at our school. Attendance is not mandatory, as results will not be distributed that day.

The lottery is completely random with select preferences built in.
Lottery preferences are provided for:

  • Siblings of current or accepted students
  • Applicants who reside within the Community School District (CSD) 7.

Applicants who apply by April 2nd will receive notification of lottery results by mail in mid-April. There are two possible outcomes from the lottery – acceptance or placement on the waitlist. If your child’s name is pulled within the first 125 names, he or she will be given a seat in our 9th grade cohort. If your child's name is not pulled in the first 125 names, then your will be placed on the waitlist in the order in which they are pulled.

Acceptance & Enrollment

All accepted students must complete the school’s enrollment process to be added to the 9th grade roster. Students and parents will need to complete required enrollment forms, as well as attend an enrollment meeting at the school. Failure to complete this process may result in forfeiture of acceptance to the school. Please note that all students must present documentation that he or she has received all vaccinations.

If the applicant is not accepted during the initial lottery (as determined by his or her random lottery number), he or she will be placed on our waitlist. We will provide as much information as possible on the likelihood of the applicant receiving a seat. Many students are accepted off the waitlist each year. We update the wait list regularly and will notify you if a seat becomes available.
